Where heritage meets modern style

Chepa is a South African streetwear brand that fuses contemporary fashion with vibrant African heritage. Founded in 2017, the label transforms traditional prints and cultural symbolism into modern, wearable styles that celebrate identity and self-expression. Inspired by the township slang “chepa” (to dress stylishly), the brand is rooted in Afrocentric design while keeping sustainability in focus, repurposing fabric offcuts into new creations. From everyday staples to statement pieces, Chepa makes African culture visible, bold, and unapologetically stylish.

The Problem

CHEPA had strong in-store demand and returning customers who continued to convert during sales. But an algorithm update shifted the majority of ad traffic to new users who were unfamiliar with the brand. While ads successfully generated interest, the previous website failed to convert that attention. Site data pointed to friction in the user journey, especially for first-time visitors. Key issues included poor mobile experience, lack of trust signals, limited payment options and confusing navigation. The gap between ad quality and site experience led to inefficient spend and missed conversion opportunities.

What We Did

The Results After Working with Expand

Our partnership with CHEPA delivered rapid, measurable results. Comparing two site-wide sale periods in close proximity, from 25 July to 3 August (before web updates) and 22 to 31 August (after updates), we saw exponential growth.
